Big marks fall at Mt. SAC Relays

TORRANCE, Calif. — Last weekend’s Mt. SAC Relays at El Camino College had several outstanding performances on the collegiate, high school and international levels in what was one of the largest track & field events contested in the South Bay.

At the 59th edition, when all was said-and-done, 75 marks were top 20 in the world, including six world-leading marks, two national collegiate records and seven NCAA Division I season-leading marks. There were also two national high school marks broken and 15 meet records broken.

St. Joseph Notre Dame High’s Cooper Teare ran the mile in 4 minutes, 0.16 seconds, which is the 10th best in U.S. high school history.

Norco’s Shae Anderson won the girls 400 in 51.99 — the 17th best time in U.S. history — beating out second-place Kaelin Roberts of Carson, who blazed to a 53.76 finish.

The University of Oregon 400 meter relay set a new NCAA record with a time of 42.12.

Nike’s Clayton Murphy ran a world-leading 1:43.60 in the 800 meters, and Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers ran a Mt. SAC Relays and NCAA record 1:59.10 in the 800.

In addition, the meet included an appearance by Olympian Allyson Felix, who ran for the Kersee All-Stars in the 1600m relay, which took third place behind Oregon and LSU.
