“I loved the idea right away. I thought it was so cool. I had just been training and training and training so anything to break it up. This seemed like something great. I just loved the concept, it was different and creative.”

In welcome news for many coaches, athletes and spectators, the CIF-Southern Section made it official Wednesday that the section’s cross country championships will return to iconic Mt. San Antonio College course for the 2020 post-season.

Hilmer Lodge Stadium has been turned into a state-of-the-art 11,500-seat stadium that could potentially expand to 20,000 seats for bigger events, but when it will make its long-awaited, much anticipated debut is anyone’s guess with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to stall sporting events for the foreseeable future.

Construction has been completed on the new Hilmer Lodge Stadium, but the Mt. SAC planned April 4th grand opening celebration has been postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. The 2020 Mt. SAC Relays, scheduled for April 16-18th, were also cancelled; the first Mt. SAC Relays not to be held in its 62-year history.

Running his first 400 as a professional, Norman ran the one-lap race in a scintillating 43.45 seconds, the fastest ever 400 run in the month of April.

At the 59th edition, when all was said-and-done, 75 marks were top 20 in the world, including six world-leading marks, two national collegiate records and seven NCAA Division I season-leading marks. There were also two national high school marks broken and 15 meet records broken.

Magical day at Mt. SAC produced seven world records by the 1960 U.S. Olympic track & field team!
