Willie Banks, who held the World Record in the Triple Jump (58’11 ½”) from 1985-1995 and the American Record holder from 1981-1996, was a member of three U.S. Olympic teams, including being selected captain of the 1988 team. Banks was a two-time California State Champion while a student at Oceanside High School, and he earned All-American honors four times at UCLA. In 1985, he was named Track & Field News Athlete of the Year.
