Help, I Have to Coach the High Jump!

About the Session

Are you a distance coach being asked to coach the high jump? Are you a thrower thrown into the high jump? Are you a math teacher looking to get involved? This is the session for you! We will be addressing the basics of the high jump from the proper set up of the equipment to some simple technical aspects that are easy to master to get your kids off on the right foot!

About the Presenter

Doug Nordquist placed runner-up at the 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials with his 2nd PR of the day at 7’7”, and later that summer, placed fifth in the 1984 Olympic Games with a jump of 7’6”. He was TAC High Jump champion in 1986 (7’7 ¾” PR) and 1988 (7’8” tied PR). He was the first Goodwill Games Champion at 7’8 ½”.  He set his personal record of 7’8 ¾” while finishing runner-up at the TAC National Championships at Cerritos College. He competed for Sonora High School, finishing in a three-way tie for third place at the 1977 CIF California State Meet with a jump of 6’10”.  Doug was also the team captain of the 1979 Fullerton College and 1981 Washington State University track teams.
